Registering the domains will be done through a private company, ICM Registry. That company itself proposed the xxx domain to ICANN. The company says to expect more than one million domain name registrations in the TLD 'xxx'. Estimates would retain approximately 25 million sites exist in this sector.

During the previous years Icann has repeatedly tried to introduce the "xxx" domain. Time after time these attempts were blocked.
This refusal was "not consistent with the use of neutral, objective and fair policy". Icann blocked the attempt because for them an important reason was that they were afraid to be seen as an organization that should have been determining weather or not the content of sites is pornographic or not, but it is generally assumed that especially the pressure of politics and conservative organizations have led to rejections.

It is assumed that the TLD of 'xxx' makes it easier for parents and organizations to prevent children coming into contact with questionable content. So it's a great initiative!

The company is counting on more than one million registrations. There are already 110,000 in reservations.
